Privacy Policy.

Last updated: 28 October 2026Applies to: the Alderfolk website

This page explains what we do with your personal data when you use the Alderfolk website, in plain words. It is short because we collect very little. The two things you can give us are your email address for the launch list, and a message through the contact form.

Preamble

1.In short
  • No cookies, no analytics, no trackers, no third-party scripts and no adverts on this site.
  • We only hold data you choose to send us: your email for the launch list, or what you put in the contact form.
  • We never sell your data, and we do not use it to profile you or to make automated decisions about you.
  • You can ask us to show, correct, export or delete it at any time.
2.Who we are

The website and the launch email list are run by CYOPS (“we”, “us”), the publisher of Alderfolk. CYOPS is the controller of the data described here, which means we decide why and how it is used. You can reach us at [email protected].

This site is run on cloud services (see section 8). We do not run our own servers.

3.What this policy covers

This policy covers this website only. The Steam store page, when it exists, is run by Valve and has its own policy.

What we collect and why

4.The launch email list
Data
Your email address, the date you signed up and the date you confirmed it.
Why
To send you one email when Alderfolk launches. Nothing else.
Legal basis
Your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by ticking a box that is never pre-ticked.
Kept
Until we have sent the launch email, then the list is deleted, or earlier if you ask. An address you do not confirm is deleted automatically after 48 hours.

After you sign up we send one confirmation email with a link, and only confirmed addresses join the list. We do not send newsletters or other marketing.

5.The contact form
Data
The topics you pick, your email address, your name and Steam ID if you give them, your message, and any files you attach (screenshots, videos, logs or documents).
Why
To read your message, reply to you, and look into any issue you report.
Legal basis
Your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by ticking the box on the form.
Kept
Up to 12 months after we receive your message, then deleted, or earlier if you ask.

Please do not attach passwords, payment details or the personal data of other people. Files are stored in a private area that only we can open, and are not published. We accept images, video, PDF, text, log, JSON, CSV and zip files, up to 5 files, 25 MB each and 50 MB in total.

6.What we do not collect

We do not use cookies or analytics and we do not keep a record of your visits. Like any website, the company that hosts it (see section 8) handles technical request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and to block abuse. We do not store or look at that data ourselves.

7.AI use in Alderfolk and on this site

The pictures on the home page are real screenshots from Alderfolk in development.

Pre-generated (made before release, ships in the game or on this site): the painted art was generated with AI image tools (ChatGPT and Canva) from our own prompts and style references, then chosen, trimmed and fitted by hand. All voices, music, ambience and sound effects were generated with ElevenLabs for this game. The game’s code was written with Claude, an AI model by Anthropic, directed and reviewed by the developer.

Live-generated (made while you play): none. The game makes no AI or network calls while it runs.

Data storage and sharing

8.Who receives your data
  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, stores the launch list and your attached files, and sends our emails. It acts as our processor, which means it handles data only on our behalf.
  • The mailbox that receives messages sent to our address is operated by our email provider.
  • No one else receives your data. We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising.
  • We may disclose data if the law or a court requires it.
9.Transfers outside your country

Cloudflare runs a global network, so your data may be processed in the European Union, the United States and other countries. Cloudflare is a US company. Where data leaves the EU, EEA or UK, we rely on the safeguards Cloudflare describes in its data processing terms, such as standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We keep what we send to it to the minimum described in this policy.

10.Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The list and files sit in access-controlled services, and the contact form accepts only a short list of file types. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep little data and delete it when the purpose is done.

Your rights

11.Access, correction, deletion and more

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to: see the data we hold about you; have it corrected; have it deleted; ask us to restrict how we use it; receive it in a portable format; and object to our use of it. Write to [email protected]. We may ask you to prove the address is yours, and we will reply within one month.

12.Withdrawing consent and unsubscribing

You can withdraw your consent at any time. Every email we send has an Opt out button that removes your address from the list straight away. You can also write to us. We will remove your address from the list and delete your messages and files if you ask. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did before.

13.Young players

This site is not aimed at children. If you are under 16, or under the age of digital consent in your country, please ask a parent or guardian before you send us your details.

14.Complaints

If you think we handled your data wrongly, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country, for example your national authority in the EU or EEA, the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK, or the Privacy Protection Authority in Israel.

15.Changes to this policy

If we change this page, the date at the top changes. If a change affects how we use your data, we will tell you before the launch email.
